Yap

A messaging app built around one idea:
every relationship deserves its own
visual identity

Right now, a conversation with your manager looks and feels the same as a conversation with a person you've known your entire life.

A three-month acquaintance is visually indistinguishable from a life-partner.

We thought that was worth fixing.

YAP lets you assign a distinct visual identity to every conversation — independent colors, typography, animations, layout, and hundreds of other visual properties — so the interface itself reflects the nature of the relationship.

Three pillars
01
Universal customization
Every visual element is yours to change. Tinker with colors, typography, animations, patterns, layout, spacing, shapes, and countless other granular customization properties. Opinionated defaults, unlimited overrides.
02
Per-relationship identity
The core idea. Each conversation can have its own visual identity, independent of the global theme. Neon gradients and an uploaded background image for that chat interface with your best friend. A stiff and stale theme for that one work group you don't want to be a part of. Clean monochrome for that legend. Every customization is private and one-sided — the other person never sees what you've chosen, unless you want them to.
03
Local-first by design
Your themes, per-relationship identities, and customizations live on your device — which is exactly what makes them instant, rich, and entirely yours to shape. Messages are end-to-end encrypted with Signal; our servers relay encrypted blobs they can't read, then forget them. Privacy here isn't a slogan — it's the sensible default underneath an app that's really about expression. Your stuff stays yours.
